Sunburn Art, new but unsafe trend
Medical Daily reports that although sunburn art isn’t a new trend, it has greatly increased in popularity thanks to the reach of social media. So if you’re turning red you’re actually damaging the first few layers of skin in a way which is definitely going to put you at risk for skin cancers in the future. Right now, Twitter, Instagram and various other social networking sites are lighting up with images of youngsters and adults alike deliberately burning their skin in the name of “Sunburn Art”. Even once the sunburn heals, the tanned skins will continue to display the design.

While we think it looks dumb, they are enough people that are attempting it that the USA Skin Cancer Foundation made a decision to speak out on the dangers of the trend.
They advised the public to avoid sunburns at all costs and said, “A sunburn is not only painful – it’s unsafe, and comes with consequences”.
Dermatologists urge people not to do this, as sunburns result in a greater incidence of skin cancer, and it can also result in premature aging in the skin.
The good news is that the use of sunscreens can reduce this skin damage and risk of skin cancer by 80%.
The health service advises that while in the sun people should seek shade, cover up with clothing, wear a hat and sunglasses and use high-protection sunblock.
