Mavericks looking at deal for Jeremy Lin
While ESPN’s Tim McMahon notes that the deal is “likely”, the Mavs’ large offseason haul-which included the signings of free agents DeAndre Jordan, Wesley Matthews and Jeremy Evans-has limited their cap space to sign Lin.
Jeremy Lin rumors lead right to the Dallas Mavericks.
Last season in his first year with the Lakers, Lin played fine averaging 11.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
The Dallas Mavericks reportedly are seeking guard Jeremy Lin for their re-tooled roster.
The 26-year-old free agent point guard, who played for the Los Angeles Lakers last season, is near to agreeing to terms on a deal that would bring him to the Mavericks. Raymond Felton and Devin Harris are expected to be his competitor should he sign with the Mavericks.
Reports said that an impending sign-and-trade deal is being cooked by the Lakers and the Mavs to get Lin in Texas this summer. He has history with Chandler Parsons from their days with the Houston Rockets, knows his way around a pick-and-roll, and should fit much better alongside Matthews than he would have Monta Ellis. The man who started the “Linsanity” phenomenon when he was with the New York Knicks reportedly believes a spot with the Mavericks would offer him an opportunity to restart his career. Parsons has displayed his prowess as a recruiter in the past, helping Houston land Dwight Howard and more recently as a part of Dallas’ sales team convincing Jordan to leave the Los Angeles Clippers for Mavericks. “That would cement Lin as a third-string point guard”, he wrote. If Lin can come in and split time with Barea at the point, while adding a veteran presence, Dallas will shape into a tough match up and preseason playoff favorite.
