Steve Waugh wants his son to play like Virat Kohli
Steve Waugh has heaped lavish praise on Virat Kohli, describing him as the best batsman in the world, Cricket Australia’s official website reports.
As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gets ready to choose an Indian team for the South Africa series, there are murmurs that Virat Kohli may replace MS Dhoni as the ODI captain. Now, under Kohli, in his first full series, India have captured the first Test series in Sri Lanka after 22 years. “With India set to play mainly at home next year, it will only be an advantage for Kohli to take over the reins now rather than in an away series”, a source said. Kohli soared to the top of the ICC rankings and was widely recognized as the best batsman in the world although there are almost half-a-dozen around the world batsman now vying for that spot. I have a 16-year-old son and I have told him “if you need someone as your role model, I think he should be Virat Kohli”. He scored centuries in three of his first four innings as skipper and averaged 86.50 for the series.
Asked if he would play a game against Bangladesh to get into limited overs mould, Virat said, “I think we have played enough cricket”.
“Technically, he is fantastic”. Sometimes, Virat crosses the line a little bit but I like his passion.
Austin Waugh has not been weighed down by his famous father’s name and is forging an impressive career of his own; he was named in Australia’s Under-16s team in June after some strong performances at the under-age national championships. Also included are several players who travelled to Zimbabwe in July under Ajinkya Rahane, when a majority of the first-choice players were rested after a hectic several months. But it is also worth keeping in mind that Dhoni is the most successful India captain ever and Kohli is just finding his feet as far as captaincy goes.
“Every side goes through transition with varying degrees”.
“We have lost some experienced players in Haddin, Michael Clarke, Chris Rogers, Shane Watson”.
From what was being told, we get to know that Kohli’s aggression is what is causing the problem and that he should tone it down.
Insisting on the efforts put in by the team, the 26-year-old said: “I have become more responsible and I always believe on hard work and persistence”.
