Keurig to Finally Release Campbell’s Soup K-Cups
It’s not your traditional cup of noodles, but Campbells soup is now partnering with Keurig to make it even easier to “brew” your lunch.
The Campbell’s Fresh Brewed K-Cup packs come in two varieties – Homestyle Chicken Broth & Noodle Soup Mix and Southwest Style Chicken Broth & Noodle Soup Mix.
The two companies teamed up nearly two years ago with the goal of producing these soup pods, and they finally announced on Wednesday that the K-Cups would be hitting stores in the USA and Canada within the month, according to the Consumerist. Soup sales were nearly flat in 2012 and 2013. Likewise, Campbell’s sales and earnings have been sluggish.
“The union of Campbell’s great taste and the speed and convenience of Keurig invites new consumption occasions and positions both companies to better meet the growing snacking needs of consumers in the United States”, said Brian P. Kelley, President and CEO of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Keurig’s parent operation, to Fox News. “Of course we hope this continues to grow and strengthen the business”.
Keurig said in the press release that brewing the soup with Keurig’s machine is a three-step process.
It’s Keurig’s first attempt at using its brew-it-yourself coffee makers for something besides hot drinks. Last quarter, the company reported a 1 percent decrease in pod sales and a 26 percent decline in brewer sales, and announced it was cutting its workforce by 5 percent. But Rogers sells a Freedom Clip that allows the Keurig 2.0 to use non-Keurig coffee pods. There is a separate packet for the noodles, which you add to your mug of goodness before you activate the Keurig. “Consumers told us they were willing to pay the price”.
