Mobile Dissolves Borders with New Offer, Announces Massive Subscriber
Even with the $30 “AT&T Passport” plan, add on your usage fees and AT&T could hit you with up to $285 in extra charges every week you use your phone in Mexico & Canada like you do at home.
The nation’s fourth-largest wireless carrier on Thursday said it would allow customers use their smartphones – to make calls, send text messages and browse the mobile Web – in both countries without any roaming charges.
Moments after T-Mobile put out the news, Legere promoted it during a conference call that started with his trademark snark about “dumb and dumber”, a.k.a. Verizon and AT&T, and “our new friend on the schoolbus”, otherwise known as Sprint – which Legere said T-Mobile may finally surpass in total customers when both carriers report new counts later this month.

Text and SMS are unlimited, data will work exactly like it does in the United States (unlimited or not, depending on your plan), and calling across all three countries is seamless.
An AT&T spokeswoman wasn’t immediately available to comment on T-Mobile’s new plan.
“We will see Canadian and Mexican carriers now develop reciprocal offers with roaming on T-Mobile’s network”, Lynnette Luna said. As for branded prepaid, T-Mobile said it added 178,000 of those customers during the quarter. A majority of worldwide T-Mobile calls – 59 percent – go to the two countries, according to a spokesman.
This marks the second in a string of new “Uncarrier” programs and pricing options T-Mobile is announcing in succession this summer. Existing customers will have to check a box in their plan to add the feature.
