Twitch mobile games streaming arrives on some Sony devices

MXTP offers bootloader level security to your device, which makes it unusual in a way. However, the app only works with a few Xperia devices at present. The firm says that, “After unlocking your device, you should not enable My Xperia (found in the settings menu under security on some devices running Android 5.0) as this might cause the device to malfunction”. Unfortunately, this has consequences for those who like to unlock their bootloaders. Beyond gaming, you can also use the app to live stream other things you are doing on Xperia smartphone or tablet to YouTube.

So if you do want to take advantage of this feature ensure that the bootloader has been locked before enabling MXTP.

The bricking issue comes up when users enable MXTP on a device that already has its bootloader unlocked. This is said to happen due to MXTP’s efforts to prevent the bootloader-unlocking on an Xperia handset that already has an unlocked bootloader.

Sony is now aware of this issue and has posted warnings on its bootloader unlock website, but no warning exists on the device itself.

In any case, Xperia device owners looking to unlock their bootloader in the future are strongly advised to disable MXTP before proceeding.
