4-Year-Old Found Dead in Apparent Drowning in San Diego; Amber Alert Issued
Police are still searching for missing 4-year-old boy Sunday.
Police later said the possible kidnapping report was a “bad lead”, and that they now suspect the 4-year-old boy simply drowned.
Young Wesley Hilaire was reported missing after going on an outing to the beach with his aunt and family members, NBC San Diego reported.
Hours after an Amber Alert was issued for a 4-year-old boy who was thought to have been abducted, his body was found Sunday after apparently drowning in San Diego’s Mission Bay, according to police.
Wesley Hilaire was last seen on the east side of Mission Bay walking by the water near the Hilton Hotel.
The boy’s father was a Navy sailor who had deployed last week, the newspaper also reported.
Police describe the adult male as black, 6 feet tall, 235 pounds with short black hair, unshaven with a dark complexion.
He is a black male with a flat top haircut and brown eyes, 4-foot-2-inches and weighing 40 pounds.
According to the L.A. Times, Hilare was last seen around 7:45 p.m.in the Mission Bay neighborhood. “Thank you all for helping with the search”, the San Diego Police Department tweeted. The family was packing up for the day when they noticed him missing, San Diego police said.
Wesley’s family was at the beach throughout the night, passing out flyers and helping emergency crews search for the boy.
