Blur’s Damon Albarn labels Adele’s new material as “middle of the road”
Danger Mouse is just one of the reported collaborators on the album, which is set to be released in November. Will she use any of the stuff? “I don’t think so…The thing is, she’s very insecure”. “Let’s wait and see”, said Albarn.
Working with Adele is a privilege for most musicians, and given her history of commercial success – her last album 21 was certified 11-times platinum – at the very least you could get a big check.
Sooo… it seems as though we have been waiting an eternity for Adele‘s new album, and it might be a bit if a disappointment when it arrives.
It’s not just his own contributions that Albarn’s unsure about – he’s pretty ambivalent about the other “very middle of the road” tracks he’s heard too.
“Adele asked me to work with her and I took the time out for her”, he explained during an interview with The Sunday.
The untitled record, rumoured to be released towards the end of this year, is said to include collaborations with Pharrell and Diane Warren, while Max Martin, who has previously worked with the likes of Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Maroon 5 has also reportedly contributed to the record. “So I now sing a song from her perspective”, she said.
Lending his support to the “No Second Betrayal” campaign, Albarn recently wrote a poetic defence of the village and the beach, ‘I fell in love with Hallsands almost 20 years ago. Albarn made his “middle of the road” comment with regards to her work with DJ Danger Mouse, the producer who previously has worked with The Black Keys, Norah Jones and Gorillaz.
