Knicks Likely To Trade Carmelo Anthony? Morris, Rubio
The New York Knicks and Carmelo Anthony are in it for the long ride, or at least for one more season. The Knicks won 17 games last season, selected project big man Kristaps Porzingis with the No. 4 overall pick and then used the offseason to sign non-stars Arron Afflalo and Robin Lopez. Considered before as a potential franchise player, the young guard is reportedly getting shopped by his team due to his nagging injuries and disgusting jump shots.
“The Kings and Knicks should take a look, even though neither has movable assets that would interest Phoenix – unless the Knicks are ready to engage in Carmelo Anthony trade talks”. Anthony was pursued by different teams including the Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony can’t bring a winning attitude to a team and he is being blamed for that a little now.
With this year’s roster, the Knicks best scenario is one of the last seeds of the Eastern Conference.
So is one of those packages enticing enough to get Phil Jackson to send over his superstar? The move points to New York’s rebuilding plans rather than be a playoff or title contender in the upcoming National Basketball Association season. Also, the Knicks don’t have their pick for next season, so tanking is not a good option. Trades will also be a priority as rumors of Jose Calderon being dealt for players like Ricky Rubio, Brandon Jennings and Eric Bledsoe are surfacing.
Carmelo is safe for now, but if things don’t turn around soon, the team might start thinking about a trade.
The Knicks will likely wait out this season and next summer before they even consider trading Anthony as they are hoping to become respectable on the floor and get some free agents to New York in the summer of 2016.
With the salary cap at an all-time high of $70 million next season, teams are more than willing to spend money on quality players.
