First time for everything: Burnley v Milton Keynes Dons
Tonight it’s a first ever league visit to Turf Moor for the side that bought a Football League place over a decade ago.
“We’ve got to keep learning, and as the games go by I think we’ll keep getting better”.
It’s signalled something of a change of opinion with some supporters.
The result lifted the visitors out of the Championship’s bottom three to secure a satisfying night for Powell, the former Charlton manager, who was sacked by the club owner, Roland Duchatelet, in March 2014 little over two months after he had taken charge.
Fernando Forestieri missed the game’s best chance as Sheffield Wednesday were frustrated away to Bolton in a goalless draw.
The Clarets claim another three vital points while the newly-promoted Dons are now without a win in four in the league.
Dyche used 23 players in the successful league campaign of 2013/14, with three of those, Alex Cisak, Steven Hewitt and Ryan Noble, making just three substitute appearances between them.
“It’s impossible he (McFadzean) wasn’t sent off, in my opinion, and I’ve seen it back as well”. I had a nice time here, it was just time to move on.
“But if you don’t quite kill the game off, they have a right to come back at you, and they did”.
“I’m really enjoying it”, Darikwa said. Matty’s more or less fully fit now and it’s going to be an interesting competition throughout the season. I’m here to play games and obviously I know I’ve got to be on top of my game for that to happen.
“It’s always good to have competition for places”, he said. For many different reasons, including a sending off that wasn’t, our honesty went against us again.
Burnley, unchanged after their 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday, struggled to get their strike duo into the game.
But the deadlock should have been broken 15 minutes in when Andre Gray was played in on goal after a neat flick-on from Vokes, but the striker couldn’t steer the ball either side of keeper David Martin.
Summer signing Matt Lowton has recovered from a shin problem, but may still be waiting to make his first start for the Clarets. I was at a team that came up last season and we shocked a lot of people.
It was so very, very wrong to allow it to happen.
Burnley’s most recent win over the Dons came courtesy of goals from Kieran Trippier and Andre Amougou in a 2-1 Carling Cup victory in September 2011.
The Dons lost 2-0 at Middlesbrough on Saturday and, while that was never a game they were expected to win, it raised further questions about the potency of the Dons’ attack.
Robinson also has a number of injury worries for so early in the season with Reeves, Walsh, Randall, Jennings, Potter and Cropper all out.
