Metro high school names transgender teen as their homecoming queen

During the Oak Park homecoming game on Saturday, the homecoming queen candidates were announced but what happened after that had everyone on their feet. When she “came out” as transgender at Oak Park High School in Kansas City, Missouri, she was scared of how her fellow students would react, only to be accepted wholeheartedly.

A Missouri high school is making headlines after a transgender student was voted as the 2015 homecoming queen. She also explained that while she spent most of her life identifying as a gay male, she never felt complete.

Following her victory speech, Patterson said: “I’ve dreamed about it since my freshman year, but I never knew it was possible for me.”. “When I came out as trans I was so afraid that I was expecting a lot of hate, but surprisingly there wasn’t much at all”.

In photos from her Facebook profile, Patterson’s transition to female is very clear. “For who I am”, said Patterson. “Ms. Landon Patterson!” read the announcer at Saturday’s game.

Patterson’s mom, Debbie Hall, was with her daughter every step of the way, including the parade. “She has so much strength that I just envy”. “If you want to call me names make jokes doubt my intentions go ahead because the reality is, I can take it, but for the thousands of kids out there coming to terms with who they are, they shouldn’t have to take it”, Jenner said at the awards ceremony. “It was so overwhelming for me because she deserves that, she deserves nothing but the best in life because she gives nothing but the best to the people that she comes across”, friend Kimmy Crane-Allen said. “The haters out there, I just want to say, ‘What would you say if it was your child?'” Hall told.
