Caught on video: Humpback whale almost crushes kayakers
There’s whale-watching. And then there’s this United Kingdom couple’s close encounter with a humpback whale in Moss Landing, California. Fortunately, they had their life vests on and were assisted by other kayakers nearby.
The video was posted on YouTube by Sanctuary Cruises, a tour company that arranges whale-watching expeditions on bigger boats.
When they emerged: “we definitely understood how lucky we were, and were pretty confused”, he said.
A lone humpback whale put on a show at Mitchell’s Cove Beach in Santa Cruz on Sunday afternoon just before sunset.
Capt. Michael Sack of Sanctuary Cruises witnessed the event.
Spending some time kayaking in the water with whales may look awesome and serene but it can also be very unsafe.
The captain of Sanctuary Cruises told KSBW that the whale was between 40 to 50 tons. “Neither of us understand how we weren’t ended there after which”.

The kayakers, a man and a woman, were knocked out of the kayak. He recalled the experience, referring to it as “the most extraordinary thing to happen to me”. The whales were swimming between and around the group, when one of them chose to make a splash in a way that only whales can. “It’s a very uncontrolled environment out there”, Sack said.
