Sony: Don’t use our waterproof phones underwater
Sony launched its Xperia line of phones with waterproofing as the key selling point, showing images of people using their phones underwater. Test results stated that it could be immersed in fresh water for 30 minutes in depths of up to 1.5 meters. More active use, such as swimming with it or spraying it with water, are not covered in the tests performed by Sony.
This is a huge about-face from a company that has even set up underwater pop-up stores as a means of highlighting its handsets’ features and of adding correcting filters to cameras for underwater photography.
It looks like the device cannot be used for taking photos while performing various underwater activities like snorkeling or scuba diving, which could turn out to be the main reason people would buy the units in the first place.
Sony later confirmed the short film was on the F65 4K cinema camera, using RX100 IV for slow motion capture. Anyone who pre-orders the device will also be entered into a drawing to win an “Aston Martin experience day” as well which lets you get behind the wheel of one of the high-end vehicles.
“Now in this update, None”, “Priority”, and “All” are now accompanied by their corresponding icons, which should make it easier for new users to relate these to their status bar icons.
The tech company Sony is now rolling out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update (build number 14.6.A.0.368) for Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact.
The fact that Xperia devices are still certified for water-resistance hasn’t changed. “Therefore we recommend not submerging our Xperia Z5 in water”. Now clicking on the buy button on items on the Sony site will direct you through to other retailers.
All claims were verified at the time of testing.
The guidelines cover all three Xperia Z5 models, and are available on the company’s official website for the people to read.
