Microsoft brings movie moments to Skype chats with new ‘Moji’ feature
Skype has partnered with Disney Muppets, Universal Studios, BBC, and more to offer content from their shows.
They seem to basically be a cross between emoji and GIFs – letting you select a tiny little animation from popular movies and TV shows to accurately describe your current emotional state without the bother of having to type. Microsoft will continue to add clips over time as well. This first Moji release will bring the fan favorites such as Bridesmaids, Despicable Me, Jurassic Park, Pitch flawless, and lot more.
Skype has always been a solid business communications tool, and Microsoft has done a great job of beefing up the infrastructure and adding in solid collaboration features since purchasing the messaging solution in 2011.
“Sometimes real life feels like it’s straight out of a movie and mere words just don’t do it justice”.
Apparently, the Skype team agrees, and so they’ve announced Skype Mojis, which take the concept of emoticons to another level entirely. “Now, when you send a message on Skype, you can personalize your chat and pull in your favourite TV or movie moments to do the talking for you”, the company wrote.
Sending a Moji is as easy as tapping the emoticon button.
The update is available today for those using Skype on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices.
The cool part is each Moji can link directly back to the source, so you won’t be wondering where it came from. A spokesperson representing Microsoft told Venture Beat that the feature will be available to Skype for Windows Phone in the near future.
