Gamecocks QB Mitch to miss 4-to-6 weeks with injuries
Even after a win last season, and a slow performance against North Carolina in game one, the Wildcats are a 7.5 under dog.
South Carolina quarterback Connor Mitch (6) runs for a touchdown…
Wildcats quarterback Patrick Towles needs to be accurate from the pocket. We had the one interception and kicked field goals. “I’ve always believed last year’s game with whomever you played is history”, Spurrier told reporters.
Brandon Wilds would be tasked with helping to boost the offense, and his effective running between the tackles would be its first spark of the night.
In the second half, Orth led the team to scores on their first four drives. Orth got his first major playing time.
Last week, the Kentucky Wildcates accumulated 257 yards in passing and 178 yards in rushing. Junior quarterback Perry Orth took over for injured starter Connor Mitch.
The Wildcats (2-0, 1-0 Southeastern) didn’t score a point on offense in the second half. It was also the first time the Wildcats have beaten South Carolina in consecutive games.
“It’ll be a very hard environment and against a team that’ll be very hungry to get after us”, he said.
On the next play, Elliott Fry’s 42-yard field goal attempt sailed wide right leaving USC without points on the drive. “We need to continue the intensity into next week”. “They look awfully strong, as usual”.
As the third quarter came to a close, the Gamecocks held a 136-22 advantage in yards gained in the 15-minute span, but were still in search of that elusive touchdown. I think he was diving for that ill-advised option play and separated his shoulder. Facing a third-and-12 on their own 33, Orth hit Cooper for 16. “This week one or two plays didn’t go our way”. He exploded for a 48 yard go-ahead touchdown in the 4th quarter and finished with 75 yards on four carries. But they fumbled on a two-point conversion try, and Kentucky’s Denzil Ware returned it 98 yards for the final margin.
New Defensive Coordinator Jon Hoke’s bend-but-don’t-break defense got twisted into a pretzel in Week 1 but never broke thanks to middle linebacker Skai Moore’s two interceptions in the endzone.
Jon Hoke knows his South Carolina defense has much more to prove despite their promising start last week. Over the offseason he focused on conditioning, dropping both his weight and body-fat percentage, and said last month he was in the best shape of his life. It’s still far too early to seriously talk about the Wildcats being contenders in the SEC East, but after some of the other results this weekend, it didn’t seem utterly ridiculous to at least consider it. And there is some time for the Wildcats to show if they’re serious; the next road game doesn’t come until October 24. Another second half of a complete breakdown is giving fans a bad taste in their mouths. The South Carolina vs. Kentucky prediction is…
