Alfa Romeo Giulia to be leader in performance across the range
The newest model to be signed by Alfa Romeo is called the Giulia and it is now debuting at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Nevertheless, assuming the lap time is accurate, that makes the Giulia QV nine seconds faster than the quickest lap set by the BMW M4 coupe around the same circuit.
Alfa Romeo has confirmed that the engine powering the vehicle is actually a 2.9-liter V-6 (it was previously reported as having a 3.0-liter displacement), which thanks to turbocharging produces a peak 510 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. Power is supplied to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox, and with an overall weight of just 1,524 kg, the sedan dashes from 0-100 kmph in just 3.9 seconds. That gives it a slight edge over the BMW M3 saloon, which emits 204g/km and officially averages 32.1mpg. This exclusive Alfa Romeo feature keeps the caster trail constant in corners allowing higher levels of lateral accelerations thanks to its always-perfect footprint. For the Giulia Quadrifoglio, the platform incorporates double wishbone suspension up front and a multi-link setup in the rear.
The news was announced by Alfa Romeo chief operating officer for Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Alfredo Altavilla.
The same attention to detail has been lavished on the interior of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia, offering the best in terms of quality, safety, equipment and comfort.
A lot of time went into engineering the Giulia QV and that’s proved by its ideal 50/50 weight balance between its front and rear axles. The system manages the action of the various features – Torque Vectoring, Active Aero Splitter, active suspension, brakes, steering and ESC system – according to the mode selected by the driver using the new Alfa DNA Pro. Carbon ceramic disc brakes and ultra-light carbon fibre Sparco seats are also available. Tamer Giulias will come with four-cylinder engines, including both gasoline and diesel units. The premium audio system is from Harman Kardon and features 14 speakers.
