Bradford Says He’s ‘Fine’ After X-Rays
They rallied to take a 24-23 lead on a one-yard run by Ryan Mathews with 8:37 left.
-WR Julio Jones caught nine passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns. The Falcons as a whole had trouble finishing drives, stalling out in Philadelphia territory multiple times and having to settle for field goals.
When asked about Byron Maxwell’s performance in Atlanta, Kelly said he was plagued by “inconsistencies in technique”. Chip Kelly’s offense is still a pretty thing, still great for tempo, and his commitment to health science has kept his team healthier than others.
Parkey didn’t, saying he knew from the second his foot hit the ball that it would be wide to the right.
“I missed it”, Parkey said.
“I think we killed ourselves. Seriously”, cracked Boone, the left guard who helped clear the way. But the ball deflected off his hands and into the arms of Ricardo Allen.
Matthews had normal soreness on Tuesday, but none specific to his back, according to Quinn. “We played a lot better in the second half”. And don’t freak out, Eagles fans.
Ryan completed 23 of 34 passes for 298 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. In addition, he will have plenty of time to work on this as the season goes on.
“Obviously you want to get more opportunities”, Murray said. Despite these issues, in the second half the offense looked absolutely superb.
In the first half, Bradford was rusty and out of sync.
Thurmond recorded an interception in his first start at safety. But the second INT, which came early in the third quarter, was simply a bad throw to a receiver who wasn’t open. “Things happen in this game, you have to adjust”. “We’re always working hard, playing fast, and it showed tonight”.
After leading the National Football League with more than 1,800 yards rushing in Dallas last season, Murray was held to 9 yards in eight carries.
“The second half was a blast”, Bradford said, via ESPN. “I’m great. I missed the kick”. “He’s big. He’s strong”.
The Eagles’ first offensive series was a three-and-out. Jenkins had a chance for two interceptions, but could not secure the catches. Mathews had only 4 yards, and Darren Sproles led the way with 50 yards on the ground. These scores book-ended a pair of field goals from each side, making the tally 20-3 at halftime in favor of the Falcons.
Just like that, the Eagles started coming back. Murray ran it in from there. He carried the ball eight times for nine total yards and caught four passes for just 11 yards. Some of the time it had to do with the coverage (last season). Displaying no indicators of complacency, Jones dominated the Eagles’ revamped secondary because the Falcons raced to a 20-Three halftime lead.
Then the Eagles tried doubling Jones.
The Eagles are 5½ point favorites over the Cowboys this Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field (4:25 p.m.).
To be fair, though, even after its electrifying debut against Washington on the first Monday night of 2013, Kelly’s Eagles still needed half the season to settle into its groove.
Carlos Hyde ran 10 yards for a TD late in the first half by spinning away from a defender and diving into the end zone on a rare nice play in a game full of ugly ones, and added a 17-yard TD run as San Francisco won at home in Jim Tomsula’s debut as the 49ers’ full-time coach. The Eagles were elated. There seemed to be little chance that small lead could withstand another possession by the Eagles. They just couldn’t convert. Still, this gives you at the very least an idea, of how some of the Eagles performed, or didn’t perform, in a disappointing Week 1 loss. We saw energy from the defense.
