Obama tweets White House invite to Ahmed Mohamed
On Monday, Ahmed showed the clock to his engineering teacher and then another teacher after the clock, which was in his backpack, beeped during class. That teacher told him that it looked like a bomb, the newspaper reported.
The teen, who said his hobby was to “invent stuff”, said the school’s principal and a police officer took him to a room where he was questioned.
The teenager was detained by 5 officers and taken to a Juvenile Detention Center where he was searched, interrogated and his tablet and clock case were confiscated.
In a statement Irving’s current mayor, Beth Van Duyne said Wednesday “I do not fault the school or the police for looking into what they saw as a potential threat”.
Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne comments on Facebook Wednesday came after word spread that 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed was placed in handcuffs and suspended for coming to school with a homemade clock that teachers thought resembled a bomb.
Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne said on her Facebook page she doesn’t fault the school or police for their actions. He said the police explained to him that he was arrested because he “committed a crime of a hoax bomb”.

After an outpouring of support for Ahmed on social media the boy took to Twitter to say he was overwhelmed by the messages.
School district spokeswoman Lesley Weaver said administrators took action because they were anxious about student safety, and that the decision to call police had nothing to do with Mohamed’s Muslim faith.
Ahmed’s arrest attracted attention from the likes of President Obama on Twitter, who offered the teen an invitation to the White House. Obama said, “We should inspire more kids like you to like science”. Police are holding the clock as evidence. “It’s what makes America great”.
