Pascagoula’s Vick Ballard waived by the Indianapolis Colts
The Colts also signed running back Zurlon Tipton and guard Robert Myers to the practice squad and released defensive tackle Jeris Pendleton. Ballard will go to the injured reserve list if he clears waivers.
The Colts made a decision to keep Ballard on the team’s 53-man roster following final roster cuts. Since August 1, Ballard has been sidelined on three separate occasions with a hamstring injury, with the most recent aggravation occurring in the Colts’ preseason finale against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Still, there’s no question that a healthy Bradshaw would provide a proven upgrade to young rookie running backs like Josh Robinson and Tyler Varga in theory.
“He’s a talented guy”, Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said last week. Even with the addition of Tipton, don’t rule out the possibility of the team adding depth at the position in the near future. He indicates Ballard was waived with an injured designation on Tuesday. The eight-year veteran is a free agent after spending the past two seasons with the Colts, both of which ended with season-ending injuries.
The Colts remain interested in bringing Bradshaw back and he’s now healthy after recovering from a broken leg in 2014, according to National Football League sources. They had him in for a workout just a few days after he was acquitted and signed him to their practice squad.
As no Colts fan will ever be able to forget his game-winning touchdown dive in overtime against the Tennessee Titans during his rookie year in Week 8 of that magical season.
The former 2012 5th round pick of the Colts presumably finishes his Colts career at this time with 877 rush yards on 224 carries (3.9 ypc average) and 2 rushing touchdowns. He sat out the 2014 season after tearing his Achilles tendon during practice.
