NASCAR driver walks away from terrifying crash at Daytona

Daytona global Speedway track president Joie Chitwood said additional safety work had “worked”. “It got my tailbone pretty good and my arm”, Dillon said in an interview with NASCAR.

“An accident like last night; it takes your breath away”. I think everybody could get good racing with slower speeds.

The crash was eerily reminiscent of a 2001 crash at the same track that killed Dale Earnhardt, Earnhardt Jr.’s father and a seven-time Sprint Cup champion, on the final lap of the Daytona 500. “I saw the whole thing in my mirror”.

After being released from the infield care centre, the 25-year-old said he worries that the speeds the cars are running at Daytona and Talladega Superspeedway continue to be too high.

“I mean, racing doesn’t matter any more”.

Crew members from multiple teams rushed the wreckage, and gave the thumbs-up when they discovered Dillon’s almost unscathed condition. “And that’s why these speedway races end, and you’re just praying and hoping that you get through it at the end”.

When the face finally got underway, Earnhardt started on the pole, with Dillon next to him on the front row.

NASCAR is a reactionary sport. “It always has been”.

“There’s nothing you can do”, Brad Keselowski said. “Obviously, we don’t want to see cars getting into the air”.

After a long weekend at the track, long-time race fans have seen this play out before at this track. But Daytona’s fence kept the vehicle from flying into the stands. “And in this case, that’s exactly what did happen”, said Gluck. They have an option to do that now – only have upper level seats in that area. The No. 3 Chevrolet was catapulted over from the inside lane of traffic hard into the catch fence. Drivers were visibly shaken after seeing the accident, although Dillon appeared calm.

More than a dozen people needed medical attention after debris from the wreck went flying into the grandstand at the Coke Zero 400 Nascar race. “I feel like I can go race”.

The latest incident happened in the early morning hours Monday during the rain-delayed Coke Zero 400. Dillonhit the spinning auto of Denny Hamlin and launched over two cars and into the catch fence.

“That scared the hell out of me, I’ll be honest with you. But like I said, I held on to the steering wheel as hard as I could”.
