Belichick lashes out on latest headset cheating accusations
Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said after the Steelers’ 28-21 loss that instead of being able to talk with his coaches on the headset, all he could hear for most of the first half was the Patriots radio broadcast.
That statement came just two days after a damning report detailed claims from other teams that the Patriots would allegedly jam their headset frequencies or even block communication so coaches were unable to coordinate plays on the field.

This time it had to deal with the headsets coaches use to communicate during the game.
Thursday’s number fell just short the record set by the kickoff game between the Brett Favre-led Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints, which grabbed 27.5 million viewers in 2010.
On Friday, the league reiterated that the home team “is responsible for the installation and maintenance of that equipment”, but acknowledged that issues occur at “many stadiums around the league” and that the NFL does a “thorough” review when they do happen. “Everybody [saw] it last night”. You’re like, “What? The headsets?” The incidents have fed suspicions around the league that there is a nefarious explanation any time something goes wrong in New England. “I’ve got a lot of love and respect for that guy,” Spaeth said.
“To take away from what those teams accomplished…it’s just not right”, Belichick said.
“It was the first game of the year and I’m not going to say I was in top-notch shape”, he said.
“In the first quarter of tonight’s game, the Pittsburgh coaches experienced interference in their headsets caused by a stadium power infrastructure issue, which was exacerbated by the inclement weather”, the statement read. “Writing about warm drinks and trash cans, stuff like that, I think it’s a sad commentary”.
Patriots quarterback – and reigning Super Bowl MVP – Tom Brady was originally suspended four games in connection with the deflated footballs. We nearly had to switch helmets with Brady there at the end – couldn’t get the plays into him.
“It’s easy for someone to make accusations, and then the media gets a hold of stuff,” Miller said.
After the game, coach Mike Tomlin subtly implied the Patriots had something to do with it. The Steelers official website wasn’t so subtle in their allegations.
Other teams in the league have been suspicious of the Patriots at least since 2007, when the league caught coach Bill Belichick illegally taping opposing coaches’ signals.
