Walter Palmer Returns to Work After Killing Cecil the Lion
A professional hunter in Zimbabwe has been charged with breaching hunting rules in connection with the hunt. On social media about a dozen people have said they will protest Dr. Palmer’s return.
And he said the ordeal has been especially hard on his wife and adult daughter, who both felt threatened. Animal lovers, including politicians and celebrities, sparked outrage for his actions through social media.
She called the protesters “crazies”. The department has not received any reports of threats to Palmer’s life, he said. “They are a huge market for us”, he said, refusing to be named because the killing of Cecil is before the courts.
The tracking collar had not been visible during the nighttime hunt because it was shrouded by a thick mane. “There are no official allegations that he’s done anything wrong”, Friedberg said.
An attorney acting on Palmer’s behalf, told that he offered to make Palmer available to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to talk about the case several weeks ago, but he hasn’t heard back. Despite claims that the dentist would be held accountable for the lion’s death, authorities have yet to have sought the extradition of the dentist. “A single hunter can spend more than $40,000 on a trophy hunting trip”, says Campfire, on its website. The hunters allegedly lured Cecil out of Hwange with an animal carcass. Palmer declined to go into further detail about the contentious hunt.
However, Palmer explained, “Obviously, if I’d have known this lion had a name and was that important to the country, or a study, obviously, I wouldn’t have taken it”.
‘I’m a health professional, ‘ the 55-year-old dentist said.
He said his situation has taken a toll on his family. Honest Ndlovu, whose property is near Hwange National Park, faces a charge of allowing the lion hunt to occur on his farm without proper authority.
“Hopefully, this will die out and we can move on”, Bloomington Deputy Police Chief Mike Hartley said Tuesday morning. We still have a security camera out in the lot there.
Environmentalists and animal rights activists have welcomed the global attention that Cecil’s death has brought to problems related to illegal poaching and trophy hunting.
A staff member clutched his arm as the pair pushed past a group of journalists. “That’s why I’m back”. “To come after people not involved at all”.
Paula French/AP Cecil the Lion was killed in July. Late-night television host Jimmy Kimmel fought back tears on the air. He said that Palmer was very careful about sharing too much detail of the incident. And Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton weighed in, saying, “I don’t understand how anybody thinks that’s a sport”. Remarkably, his first patient, a white male in his 40s, arrived at the surgery in a pick-up truck with hunting camouflage upholstery. “Cecil had a family!” one protester hurled at an older patient leaving Palmer’s office.
