Hugo Lloris happy at Tottenham, demands progress in Europe
Hugo Lloris says he expects more of his Tottenham side in the Europa League – and has challenged them to qualify for the Champions League by winning it.
The Red Devils were expected to make a move for the Frenchman if David de Gea departed, as reported by the Independent, but both ‘keepers remained at their current clubs in the end.
White Hart Lane spent big this summer on new acquisitions, and so far, the overall return on investment has been minimal.
“Of course I am happy here with Tottenham”, talkSPORT quotes the France worldwide as saying. I am not here to talk about my future or past.
“Qarabag have very good players and they try to play in a style that surprised me”, he said.
‘I am happy to be at Tottenham and be their captain. “But I agree with Hugo – I expect more from us, from the team, but that is always our ambition”.
The north London outfit are yet to progress past the quarter-final point of the competition, however an automatic Champions League spot is up for grabs should they go all the way.
Though the Europa League has proven to be an unwanted distraction during previous seasons, the additional carrot of a Champions League place being on offer for the victorious team means Tottenham would be well advised to take the continent’s second-tier competition more seriously.
‘I think European competition is always important when you are a player.
“We have six games ahead in two and a half weeks and it’s important to share the minutes and to put the best teams forward for every game”.
“I have a lot of affection for Tottenham”.
“We know it is a trophy to get and you play only to win“.
“It’s not easy to reach the final of the Europa League because you have to play so many games and the Premier League is such a tough competition”. We need to be 100 per cent focused for Tottenham.
