I’m not under pressure, says Jose after Everton loss
For me, clearly, you can say what you want but the players deserve a much better result.
The Premier League were humbled 3-1 by Martinez’s men at Goodison Park – their third defeat of the season – to leave them with their worst start to a league campaign since 1986-87.
The result was in stark contrast to the corresponding fixture last season when the Blues ran out 6-3 victors on Merseyside, and Martinez was pleased with how his players coped against Jose Mourinho’s side this time around.
“I’m not saying we will win the league from here, but I certainly think we still can – City will slip up at some point, so we’ll see”. Then we have a derby against Arsenal, so I hope we will be ready for that and we can take three points. “We have to cope with it. Football is about results. We know we are making mistakes but for every mistake we are punished immediately”, he said.
Jose Mourinho raged at Roberto Martinez following Chelsea’s defeat at Everton, it has been claimed. I am not feeling pressure. “It’s a pleasure and an honour to be Chelsea manager”, he added. Steven Naismith scored a hat-trick in a match dominated largely by Everton but Mourinho insisted his team deserved to win and would have done so with a bit more luck.
Mourinho said after Saturday’s game: “I am the man for the job”.
“The results are the worst in my career”, said Mourinho, as quoted by BBC Sport.
When asked if he would nonetheless invite Mourinho for the traditional post-game drink, the former Wigan manager replied: “Of course – and I am sure he’s going to come round”.
Martinez also singled out center-back John Stones, who had been targeted by Chelsea before the transfer window closed, for the professionalism of his display.
Since the Premier League’s beginning, no team has ever fought back to win the title with Chelsea’s record after these opening five games.
“He’s shown that he is a future England captain”.
