South Carolina looks to rebound at Georgia
University of South Carolina quarterback Connor Mitch has been released from the hospital and is doing well, according to team physician Dr. Jeffrey Guy.
Said Jenkins: “I stuck to the game plan”.
Spurrier says Mitch had internal bleeding in the area, leading to the stay in the hospital.
The 5-foot-10, 220-pound sophomore tailback hasn’t missed a beat in 2015 – gashing Louisiana-Monroe’s defense for 120 yards during the Bulldogs’ season opener and putting up another 189 yards against Vanderbilt last week. “We all knew how talented he was”.
“Alan said the guy was giving some crap, and he gave him a little shove,”Spurrier said after the game”.
Was the targeting penalty called on Lorenzo Carter appropriate?
“I’m talking about the penalties, and blocking assignments, and fitting the runs, things of that nature”, Spurrier said.
Will he shred South Carolina similarly? The Gamecocks marched into Kentucky territory time and again last week, but settled for three field goals and blew an opportunity in the red zone. Spurrier said Carson has been productive when he’s been given the chance and can break off runs when it seems like there’s no room. “Sometimes there was nothing there and he was able to make yards, so he deserves to be second. That’s what they do and that’s going to be the challenge for us”.
Can Georgia get over the recent hump that’s emerged against South Carolina?
Although the outing ending with Kentucky intercepting his last pass, Orth is excited to start his first game and appears to be preparing for it in a calm, business-like manner. Al Harris and Rico McWilliams started at cornerback against Kentucky.
Those players who did not practice on Tuesday included defensive tackle Dante Sawyer (shoulder) and cornerback Chris Lammons (knee). WR Shaq Davidson (knee) and WR Jerad Washington (left leg) are out for the season. We did that in the second half.
One major change this week will be at the quarterback position, where former walk-on and junior quarterback Perry Orth will take the reigns of the offense.
Meanwhile, Vanderbilt’s signal caller Johnny McCrary was horrendous with the ball in his hands completing 24 of 50 attempts for 295 yards and a score, but with three costly interceptions. This game serves as a tipping point for the Gamecocks, who would have little shot at an SEC East title with a loss and could have even less internal hope.
“Our fans were super, sensational, loud”, Spurrier said. “We’ll get both of them available and kind of see how the game goes”. It came into the game off a strong win over Clemson, while South Carolina came in struggling.
