3500 ‘Bladed Instruments’ Found After Arrest
Police found more than 3,700 knives, swords and blades cluttered inside a freaky Florida woman’s mobile home Tuesday night – and then she took one of her weapons and tried to stab an officer. The sheriff described the scene as satanic, with fake skulls and rubber body parts on an altar.
Deputies spotted her looking out of a broken window and when she spotted one of the deputies, she disappeared somewhere inside the home. Deputies went to Nickole Dykema’s Brooksville home to assist probation and parole officers who were trying to issue felony arrest warrants at around 10 p.m. The officers shouted commands for Dykema to come out, but she yelled obscenities and told them to “leave her property”.
Dykema then approached deputies while armed with an undetermined number of knives, the report said, so they fired more beanbag rounds into her abdomen and thigh. Deputies say she had a long, shiny sword waving around behind the blanket.
Dykema tried to stab one sergeant, missing his face and head by inches, according to the release. Neither Dykema nor any deputy was injured.
The Tribune reports Dykema was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center where she was being held without bond.
Deputies spotted Dykema again hiding behind a blanket with a sword and deployed a bean bag round when she refused to come out. Then a deputy shocked her with a Taser. She fell to the ground and was arrested. “He would’ve been well within his rights to both legally or morally, and ethically to use deadly force on her. The fact that he didn’t is his call”, says Sheriff Al Nienhuis.
She faces charges of assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest without violence, property damage/criminal mischief and three counts of violation of probation.
“It shows the level of their restraint and professionalism under very difficult and dangerous conditions”, he said. Had something gone wrong, it would be easy for critics to accuse them of moving too quickly or too slowly.
