‘Doctor Who’ versus ‘Sherlock’? Keep dreaming, Comic-Con

On Thursday, the Doctor himself (Peter Capaldi) traveled through space and time to appear at the Doctor WhoComic-Con panel with his companion Clara (Jenna Coleman) and hounded by Missy, aka the Master (Michelle Gomez).

As confirmed in the trailer, Doctor Who series 9 will air on BBC1 on September 19th. “What took you so long, old man?” she states, opening up a world of questions as to whom she might possibly be playing. “I think I’ve expressed myself about this as clearly as you could … some people are not reading the subtext, because it’s too subtle”.

Moffat talked about the experience of writing for a new Doctor, and he said the new Doctors tend to define themselves so he doesn’t have to worry about it too much as a writer.

The trailer itself features the usual sort of things you’d expect from a Doctor Who trailer, including mysterious voiceovers, Daleks, and some weird monsters, but that’s not to say that there aren’t some surprises. Although, he also admitted that season nine has Clara trying to make the Doctor “more of a welcome party guest”.

Nevertheless you can get a good look at her at the tail end of the above teaser for the new season. But I think certainly the way that technology has expanded, the TV show is looking so brilliant that I think it really cries out to be on the big-screen at some point. Considering the rumors of her quitting a year ago, we’re getting anxious again heading into the new season. “It’s nearly like he’s running from something, something that if it ever catches him will turn his life upside down”. Just what role they will play remains a mystery and they could either be allies to the Time Lord or potentially the villains of the story.

Emilia Clarke, the actress who plays Daenerys Targaryen, has previously told MTV that she gave Jon Snow a “50/50 chance” of survival, adding: “There’s some very helpful people there who could bring him on back to life”.

“What’s your opinion on having a female Doctor?” a woman dressed as the Matt Smith Doctor asked Moffat.
