Stars out in force for Miss You Already premiere
Miss You Already had its European Premiere in Leicester Square in aid of Breast Cancer Now, and we were in town to speak with the cast and crew. “Milly wasn’t always appropriate, but she was always there”, says Barrymore’s Jess in voice-over, as we see the two friends weeping side by side at the funeral of Jess’s mom, arms wrapped around each other while they sing a church hymn.
‘I would have done anything for this movie I loved it so much’.
Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine she said: “We did not want to misrepresent the experience at all”.
They eventually made it to their destination shortly before the programme was due to end and were only able to take part in a brief five-minute interview before the credits rolled.
Milly (Toni Collette) and Jess (Drew Barrymore) have been best friends since childhood.
Collette sported a stunning green Herve Leger dress for the event and a short crop, having shaved her head to play the chemotherapy patient.
Jacqueline Bisset, who plays her on-screen mother Miranda, reported: “She was very brave”. Barrymore emanates a goodness and steadiness that would be appealing to a fun narcissist like Collette’s Milly, and Collette, as always, is a wonder of empathy, imbuing Milly’s selfishness with the biting humor of a woman not prone to letting down her guard; the scene when she tries on wigs after losing her hair is wrenching.
Paddy, 41, explained that it was important to explore issues that viewers will relate to and connect with.
Catherine Hardwicke, 59, who directed the film said: “We hope that it does encourage people to love their best friend more, support their friend. Add laughter to their lives even if they’re going through a tough time”, Hardwicke said.
Singer Paloma, who contributed an original song to the film titled The crazy Ones, was on hand to sign autographs for fans.
Miss You Already isn’t out on general release in Irish cinmeas until the 25th of September, but if you’d like to see it before everybody else then you’re in luck.
