Patels to Stage Rally During Modi’s UN Visit
The “economic non-cooperation” by Patels for OBC reservation demand spread on Thursday as the community members queued up in large numbers at a bank to withdraw money.
He said, “It doesn’t matter if I lose out on the interest I am withdrawing two lakhs fixed deposit from the bank”.
“It is just the beginning”. The lawyer, Virat Popat, had complained that policemen caused damage to private property when the riots broke out after Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convenor Hardik Patel’s arrest. “Only if we stop cooperating economically government will understand our issue”.
During the occasion, Minister of Panchayat, Rural Housing and Rural Development Jayantibhai Kavadiya, Minister of State for Health Shankarbhai Chaudhary and Chief Secretary of Gujarat Government G.R. Aloria gave their occasional speeches.
The members of the community have started withdrawing money from banks in a bid to put pressure the state government to accept their demand for reservation. However, if the amount would increase it can be a hard task for the bank to disburse money immediately.
Scores of account holders turned up at the Kherol village branch of Sabarkantha District Co-operative bank and wanted to withdraw a whopping sum of Rs 9 core, a demand which the branch apparently found it hard to meet.
The chief minister’s comments came a day after the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) broke its silence on the quota stir and hit out at 22-year-old Patel for his aggressive warnings at a mega rally in Ahmedabad on August 25, cautioning that the social fabric will be “destroyed” if the movement is allowed to become “divisive”.
Not only in North Gujarat, co-operative banks in other parts of the State are too facing the heat as more number of people from the community are thronging to branches of co-operative banks in Surendranagar, Himmatnagar, Bharuch, Amreli, Jamnagar and Junagadh.
