Capcom turns Resident Evil into an online shooter to celebrate 20th anniversary
Capcom previously flirted with Resident Evil as a shooter with 2012’s Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, which was developed by Slant Six Games.
Next year marks the hit horror series’ 20th anniversary and Capcom are celebrating it with the release of both Umbrella Corps and a remake of Resident Evil Zero.
Umbrella Corps is coming to PS4 in early 2016 for $30 United States dollars . Although the organization was brought down in 2003, its legacy of bio-terrorism continued. Each adrenaline-fueled match will be short and brutal and is designed for quick and engaging play.
Now we know it’s a competitive shooter with a video showing multiplayer, as teams run around dank corridors blasting away at each other from behind cover.
The multiplayer game appears to be team based, with players needing to take out the opposing team with the added twist of no respawn.
I must admit, I rather like the idea of Umbrella Corps – the idea of an enclosed, claustrophobic deathmatch where you’ve got to worry about NPC creatures as well as other players really appeals to me for some reason. One such mode (which is playable this week at TGS!) is the One Life Match mode. Teams of mercenaries will battle it out using a range of traditional weapons along with more unusual gear, such as the Brainer melee axe, terrain spikes for trampling enemies, and a zombie jammer to repel the undead.
