Funeral for young NZ mum on Gold Coast
Hundreds of mourners gathered on Queensland’s Gold Coast this morning to farewell Tara Brown, the young mother murdered in what is alleged to be an appalling case of domestic violence.
Ms Brown’s grief-stricken mother didn’t speak, but found the strength to pick up her granddaughter as her daughter’s coffin was driven away from the church.
Ms Brown’s aunt Maria Hinton said the New Zealand-born woman with a passion for rugby union and touch football had “amazed” everyone with her beauty.
Most wore homemade white ribbons in a public stand against domestic violence.
Ms Brown’s uncle also recited a self-penned poem begging any woman suffering not to stay silent.
Ms Brown, 24, died from injuries she sustained last week during an alleged assault on a suburban street in Molendinar.
Friends have previously spoken on their love for Ms Brown, describing her as “beautiful, inside and out”.
He was charged in a bedside hearing in the Gold Coast University Hospital where he had been admitted with stab wounds, believed to have been self-inflicted.
She died the night after the incident after her family switched off her life support.
He’s been charged with her murder.
His lawyer, Campbell MacCallum, told the court he was seeking assurances his client would receive access to a psychiatrist.
Police allege Ms Brown was attacked by former partner Lionel Patea after being run off the road.
Maryborough mother-of-four Karina Lock, 49 was shot in the head at a Gold Coast McDonalds by her estranged husband Stephen, who then turned the gun on himself.
