School bus crashes into pond near Tampa, Florida
A Hillsborough County school bus has gone into a pond in Northwest Hillsborough in Florida, reports CBS affiliate WTSP.
Parents in The Eagles community, where the crash occurred, said the bus is one of three that carries children in the area to and from school.
Students were being transported from Mary E. Bryant Elementary School, WTSP reports.
The view from SkyFOX showed the bus on its side in the water – with lights still flashing – several yards from shore. The bus ended up in the lake.
It’s unclear how many students were onboard or what caused the bus to steer off course about 2:20 p.m. near Racetrack Rd.in Odessa, Fla. Deputies Greg Wehr, Steve Favors and Nancy Burkett jumped into the pond to rescue the children and driver, the sheriff’s office said.
