Girl found dead on Boston Harbor shore identified
Massachusetts police have identified the 4-year-old girl whose body was found stuffed in a trash bag on a beach in Boston Harbor in June, local media reported on Friday, citing unnamed law-enforcement sources.
The official spoke Friday on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release details of the investigation.
Police searched a Boston home on Thursday and have been in contact with family members, an official told AP news agency. Dave Procopio of the State Police told ABC News that the investigation is ongoing and they have nothing to add beyond that at this time.
“Baby Doe” is thought to be about 4 years old.
The tiny body was found June 25 wrapped in a black trash bag, wearing polka dot trousers lying next to a zebra blanket along the shore of Deer Island, a narrow peninsula just east of Boston’s Logan Airport.
Police immediately appealed to the public for help in identifying the girl.
The case has prompted tens of thousands of tips, many on leads from across the country and a few from as far flung as Europe, police have said. She had pierced ears and appeared to be well-nourished.
Authorities launched an anonymous tip line and put an image of what they believe she looked like on billboards across the state.
According to the station, the girl’s name and cause of death have not been released yet, but she is from Boston.
