Saina Nehwal Gifts Her Badminton Racquet to PM Narendra Modi
Ace Badminton player Saina Nehwal, who is now ranked No1 in the world by Badminton World Federation Women’s Singles 2015 on Wednesday, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. “I actually gave him one racquet of mine”, Saina said. His birthday falls on September 17. Talking to mediapersons, Saina said it is a very special day as she was able to meet PM Modi a day before his birthday.
“She presented one of her badminton racquets to the Prime Minister”, read a government statement.
Saina’s father Dr. Harvir Nehwal, who accompanied her, said that the Prime Minister had assured him, that if they were to ever face any difficulties in providing any facility for his daughter, they were free to contact him.
Saina said Modi had discussed about sports and had congratulated her for her medal winning performances at the World Championship and 2012 London Olympics. It’s really good to know that he follows every sport regularly and also interesting thing is he spoke to me about my matches. However Nehwal still became the first Indian to win a silver medal in the prestigious tournament.
