Facebook to extend Facebook at Work to a number of companies
Codorniou told Re/code 40 top executives at Heineken have been using Facebook at work, and the company plans to roll the product out to all 550 of its employees in the U.S.by the end of the month. It is now preparing to launch the product more broadly into businesses, from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. That’s the way we acquire most of our customers anyway.
Encouragingly for Facebook, early adopters have already started to expand its use internally.
Facebook at Work is secure and separate from a user’s personal Facebook account. According to IT analyst Gaurav Kumar, “While the social media firm may have gained the trust of almost a billion daily active users worldwide, unless it gains the trust of the IT departments to gain traction as a business tool, there are lesser chances of its success”. Therefore, companies are yet to reap the benefits of social tools and it may take a while for this segment to mature.
He offered similar news about Latin American e-commerce company Linio, saying that it would expand its use of Facebook at Work from 200 employees now to 2,000 during the same time frame.
He added that Facebook was using its expertise in designing mobile apps to make the platform mobile first – enabling even workers without PCs or desk jobs to contribute to work on the site.
Facebook for Work, the enterprise version of the social network built specifically for businesses, will likely launch out of beta by the end of the year, Julien Codornious, the exec running the efforts, told Recode. It is this popularity, which can help it make a difference in the world of business.
Facebook at Work has news feeds, chats, groups and other features that can be found on the widely-used social network, but sharing can only be done with people inside a particular company. Although it is now targeted at boosting internal networking, it could also one day rival LinkedIn, the social network for professionals. A specific release window, however, remains ambiguous.
