Transparent, Game of Thrones Win Creative Arts Emmys
The Creative Arts Emmys were presented this weekend, and in an unsurprising twist that makes them a bit harder to distinguish from the normal Emmys, most of the awards went to HBO and Game Of Thrones (which got eight awards on its own).
Among other technical awards, Game Of Thrones landed trophies for non-prosthetic makeup, editing, casting, sound mixing and visual effects.
Margo Martindale took best guest actress in a drama for “The Americans“, marking the FX drama’s first victory.
“I love to be in a show that is a voice of understanding, compassion and radical inclusion”, said the “West Wing” alum in his acceptance speech, adding to loud applause from the audience: “We’re not there yet, but non-judgement day is coming”. Bessie, starring Queen Latifah, won four, while scientology documentary Going Clear picked up three and The Jinx and Olive Kitteridge won two apiece.
Behind HBO in the network awards tally was NBC with 11 awards, led by SNL 40th Anniversary Special’s four wins. Primetime Emmy Awards are scheduled to take place next Sunday and it is predicted that the Game of Thrones will win atleast 3 awards there.
– Structured actuality program: “Shark Tank”, ABC. The network’s tech-friendly comedy Silicon Valley also made the ranks, winning for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program (half-hour or less) and for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series. The Netflix original series also won for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score.) The Leonardo DiCaprio-produced documentary Virunga also won for Outstanding Cinematography for Nonfiction Programming.
Choreography (multiple winners): “Dancing With the Stars“, ABC; “So You Think You Can Dance“, Fox.
Costumes for a period fantasy series, limited series or movie: “American Horror Story: Freak Show“, FX Networks.
Competing against “Mad Men”, “House of Cards” and “Game of Thrones” (which won), “Orange is the New Black” was at the back of the pack in casting, but saw an even uglier switch-a-roo in the guest acting categories.
