United Kingdom media loves the idea of a Margaret Thatcher $10 bill
The debate was held in a hall in the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California, and the candidates stood before the aircraft that served as Air Force One during Reagan’s presidency.
During the debate, Bush and the other GOP candidates were asked which woman they would like to see on the $10 bill.
Perhaps strangest of all was former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who suggested that former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher ought to adorn the currency.
Based in the United Kingdom , Larry is passionate about all things news and technology related.
“Maggie Thatcher viciously and heartlessly forced ten young Irish Catholics in Northern Ireland to die on hunger strike”.
“That would generate a lot of interest”.
In a related move and earlier this summer, the U.S. Treasury Department did announce that it would be redesigning the $10 bill to feature a woman for the first time on its face in almost a century.
Other candidates suggested Rosa Parks, while Ben Carson, Mike Huckabee and Donald Trump named members of their family. He added that it’s “probably illegal”-because Thatcher wasn’t an American-“but what the heck”.
“To put such a woman on an American banknote would be the greatest insult possible to the millions Irish Americans who trace their roots to fleeing starvation , war and persecution and religious bigotry – something akin to what the American forces faced when fighting for independence the same way the Irish did”, the IrishCentral.com article says.
A couple of the most left-field choices came from presumed frontrunner Jeb Bush and Ohio governor John Kasich.
Paul chose suffragette Susan B. Anthony, who has already been featured on a dollar coin.
The only woman on the stage, Carly Fiorina, dismissed the idea and said instead every woman should be allowed “to live the life she chooses”.
