More live photos of BlackBerry Venice maker the rounds online
Fresh images and other details about the suspected BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) Venice smartphone have surfaced. In terms of software, the device seems similar to vanilla Android.
Everyone’s favorite, the BlackBerry Venice, received a bit of hands-on time in a recent video to hit YouTube. There’s also support for tap-to-wake, which lets you turn on the phone by double tapping the display when the screen is off. You can also press the power button if you’d prefer. But there are keyboard shortcuts and other features that should take advantage of the slide form factor. While Android-run smartphones captured at least 84 percent of devices sold in the quarter, with Samsung’s Galaxy S6 the best-selling one, a big chunk of the market is from reasonably priced handsets.
The BlackBerry Venice is said to carry the STV100-6 model number and will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 six-core SoC clocked at 1.8GHz.
Just like the BlackBerry Passport, the Venice’s keyboard senses the user’s touch, so it can be used to scroll up and down, thus making it easier to browse the Internet or read long documents. At the back, the device will sport an 18MP primary shooter with optical image stabilization. The rear facing camera of the handset that is enabled with Optical Image Stabilization feature is likely to be of 18-megapixel whereas the one sitting on the front is of 5-megapixel.
Judging from the photos, BlackBerry Venice users will be able to customize home screen communication shortcuts for writing emails, BBM messages, SMS, email contacts and text contacts. The device will allegedly be made available across all carriers in the United States when it launches some time in November, but we will have to wait for BlackBerry to make an official announcement.
