Tom Selleck has been accused of stealing water from a public hydrant

Actor Tom Selleck had truckloads of water delivered to his Hidden Valley home from a nearby water district according to a complaint filed in Ventura County Superior Court.

The most recent theft is said to have taken place in March, when water was reportedly taken from the town of Thousand Oaks to Selleck’s ranch on four consecutive days. The Sellecks’ ranch is in a different water district.

Representatives for Selleck have not responded to a request for comment.

Calleguas alleges that the Sellecks have continued to steal water outside their district from a fire hydrant, even after Calleguas sent two cease-and-desist letters, according to its attorneys.

Ventura County sheriff’s Capt. John Riley told NBC News authorities have conducted their own investigation but “we were unable to establish a crime was committed”.

A water truck has been seen on multiple occasions (between 2013 and 2015) hauling water from the hydrant to Selleck’s 60-acre property in Hidden Valley, which includes an avocado farm.

The water district is seeking reimbursement for court costs and the costs of the private investigator as well as a preliminary and permanent injunction and other damages, according to Courthouse News Service.

“Our 630,000 customers are ripping out their lawns, drastically cutting back on the water they use”, said Eric Bergh, resources manager for the Calleguas Municipal Water District, to the LA Times. “It’s really about doing the right thing and preserving our water supply for our users”.
