Keith Richards On World Cafe
The musician sported a snakeskin jacket and brightly coloured headband as he arrived at the world premiere of Keith Richards: Under The Influence at the Toronto worldwide Film Festival, accompanied by his wife Patti Hansen.
Basically, it’s about hanging with Keith Richards, whose new solo album comes out on Friday.
Richards, known for his hard-living ways and cantankerous public comments, releases Crosseyed Heart, his first solo album in 23 years, today. But under director Morgan Neville, who won an Oscar for “20 Feet from Stardom”, the focus shifted to where his music comes from.
Growing up in post-war Britain, Richards said his home was filled the music of Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald. This might have been a stronger album if a few songs got cut and 15 minutes were trimmed to make this more like a classic LP in length.
“It was all good stuff”.
British veteran rockers The Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger sings next to band member Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts as they open their North American “Zip Code” tour in San Diego, California May 24, 2015.
“We hadn’t realized until we got here how white kids just didn’t go down the other end of the dial where, to us, it was like treasure troves”, he said.
He added: “If we stood here all night I could reel off a list, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Ray Charles”. This will be its first album in more than 10 years. Thankfully, it seems like no amount of moss is enough to slow down these Rolling Stones. So there’s always that feeling of something more to come. Earlier this year, Mick Jagger had this to say about the possibility of a new album: “It would be very nice and I’ve got a lot of new songs and songs I’ve written over the last couple of years”.
The Stones guitarist talked about the Stones’ plans to record their first studio album since 2005’s “A Bigger Bang” during an iHeartRadio ICONS broadcast from New York this week. “Some anticipation. The energy is there”.
