Woods has another back surgery, out for season
Tiger Woods announced Friday on his website that he underwent his second back surgery in as many years on Wednesday.
“This is certainly disappointing, but I’m a fighter”, said the 14-times major victor .
The 39-year-old also added that he was told he “can make a full recovery” from this second back procedure.
Woods previously underwent his first microdiscectomy surgery in March 2014. However, he had shown some signs of turning the corner at his last start, the Wyndham Championship, when he played his way into Sunday’s final pairing before a triple-bogey on the 11th hole ended his chances of winning.
Woods said he would be forced to cancel planned appearances at three events – the Frys.com Open at Silverado in California and the Bridgestone America’s Golf Cup in Mexico City next month and his own Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas in early December.
“The microsurgery was a complete success, and he was discharged Thursday night”, Rich said.
Woods felt some occasional discomfort in the back and hip in recent weeks, his website said, and he chose to have surgery quickly in order to return to the PGA Tour as soon as he could. “Those were two events I was really looking forward to playing”. An examination displayed that he was again experiencing major back issues and he elected to undergo the procedure.
Woods is expected to begin rehabilitation and soft tissue treatments next week.
Woods’ site states he does not anticipate returning until early 2016.
Given all the problems Woods’ body has faced, starting with a torn ACL at the 2008 U.S. Open, fans should temper their expectations.
