Computer failure halts American Airlines flights
The delay at DFW yesterday is connected to computers.
Some 525 flights on American Airlines were delayed and five cancelled on Thursday, according to flight-tracking website FlightAware.com.
The technical issues were resolved but not before passengers started complaining via social media.
The ground stop affected around 3,500 flights.
Flights on both American and its regional affiliate, American Eagle, were halted.
“We have resolved connectivity issues that led to a ground stop today at our Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth and Miami hubs”, American Airlines spokesman Casey Norton said.
Flights to and from Dallas, Chicago and Miami were briefly stopped because of a computer problem that prevented passengers from checking in.
The company released a statement on Twitter regarding the stoppage, saying that it had “experienced a network connectivity issue”, also stating that they were “working to resolve and apologise for any inconvenience”.
American has made meticulous plans to avoid a similar fate.
Comments from customers replying to the notice, however, insisted that American Airlines customer service was anywhere from unhelpful to outright rude.
This is not the first time United Airlines has suffered because of a computer failure.
American is moving to complete one of the trickiest phases of its merger with US Airways.
Spokespeople for American Airlines insist that their computer issues had nothing to do with the merging of their reservation systems with US Airways.
