Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Laps Nürburgring In 7:39
Unveiled at Alfa Romeo’s 105th anniversary, and shown off to the waiting press at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the first flavour shown of the Giulia was the high-performance “Quadrifoglio Verde” (or “Alfa Romeo Giulia Cloverleaf” in English) which corresponds with Alfa’s reputation as a drivers’ manufacturer.
Powering the hardcore Alfa Romeo SUV will be the same twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 engine as the Giulia QV. Additionally, there’s a chance the Alfa Romeo SUV will feature a 50:50 weight distribution to provide an extremely well handling vehicle . Power is supplied to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox, and with an overall weight of just 1,524 kg, the sedan dashes from 0-100 kmph in just 3.9 seconds. These products, Wester says, will bring back and respect the traditional DNA of Alfa Romeo.
Exact prices have not been announced, and we’ll have to wait until next year for finalised specs for the diesel and lesser petrol models, but a spokesperson has confirmed the hot QV version will cost from £53,000 in Germany.
As previously reported, the platform of the Giulia is a new design.
What do you think of Alfa’s new Giulia?
The aforementioned top-of-the-line Giulia QV will feature a 503bhp, 3.0-litre Ferrari-developed V6 engine. Nevertheless, assuming the lap time is accurate, that makes the Giulia QV nine seconds faster than the quickest lap set by the BMW M4 coupe around the same circuit. The doors are made of aluminium, for instance, and the bonnet and roof are carbon fibre.
Fuel economy is unconfirmed but the Giulia QV is rumoured to record around 35mpg, which puts its ahead of the BMW M3 saloon with its official average figure of 32.1mpg.
The Quadrifoglio also debuts performance tech that’s new to Alfa, including Torque Vectoring, an electromechanical Integrated Brake System and an Active Aero splitter that manages downforce for better high-speed stability.
Highlights include the Connect 3D Nav infotainment device, voice recognition and gesture recognition systems, a rotary pad and an 8.8-inch TFT display screen. European sales will begin at the end of 2016.
