The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 777 of Richmond and the Veteran’s Memorial Park Committee are planning the 10th annual POW/MIA Recognition Day for noon Friday at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Richmond. This Agency will help recover and account for prisoners of war and those missing in action, work to better anticipate family needs, and ensure that timely, accurate information is communicated to loved ones. She was one of the guests of honor at Thursday’s ceremony.
As a World War II POW, Jesse Reno lived through the most inhumane living conditions for more than a year. During his 11th mission, Traylor gunned down several enemy fighters before German forces grounded his team’s aircraft, resulting in deaths of the pilot and copilot and the capture of Traylor and the rest of the crew. She says he and the other American prisoners were put in box cars and shipped to Poland where they stayed in a prison camp until 1945. He was forced to work outside on a railroad until he was too sick to continue.
“We really need to do something about that”, he said. The group also honored law enforcement and the Patriot Guard.
About 300 people attended the ceremony.
Speakers reminded Americans to keep in mind those men and women who were captured or never returned home from the battlefield.
The events allowed Service members and civilians time to pause and remember the sacrifices and service of those who were POWs, as well as those who are MIA, and their families.
