Mother charges 13-year-old son rent after he lies about doing his homework
In response to the letter, Havisham said her son took the message on board, as it was all about that, and not to make him contribute financially.
Thousands of people have been sharing a mother’s embarrassing letter to her tearaway 13-year-old son, in which she teaches him “a lesson in independence” by vowing to charge him for rent, electricity, internet and food. As she admitted to using a pseudonym on her social media account, Facebook then blocked her. She said he must repay her for things she had bought him in the past and then outlined how Aaron must do his bit around the house, including cleaning his room and bathroom, emptying the garbage and generally making his own meals.
The youngster, who is known only as Aaron was told that he faces “greater consequences” for treating his mother as a “doormat”.
On her renamed Facebook account, the single mom has since posted a note reading, “As a parent, I get excited every time my son has a success in real life and online”.
And it has clearly struck a chord with parents everywhere, gaining more than 87,000 likes and 162,000 shares after it was posted on Facebook. But – following much praise, criticism and 100 friend requests – she realised she had made a public post and that it had set the internet alight.
In the end, mom offered Aaron a chance to negotiate the terms, should he decide to go back to being her child. It’s out there; and I am not ashamed of what I wrote.
“I see that a lot of people have varying opinions on my letter to my son”. When I realized he had lied to me about homework, I put time constrictions to his internet access. When I ask him to do something, he does it’.
‘I want him to take pride in his home, his space, and appreciate the gifts and blessings we have.
Johnson says since she posted the letter, her son has apologized and is trying harder.
