Samsung’s Turtle Glass Could Be A Gorilla Glass Alternative
Samsung has filed for a trademark for Turtle Glass with the authority of South Korea.
Corning’s Gorilla Glass is everywhere these days, sitting on top of most smartphone and tablet display panels, protecting them while being quite sturdy in the process.
According to the report, Samsung will be unveiling a smartphone with a foldable display in January – launching at CES 2016, perhaps? Unlike many new products that are being developed today, Gorilla Glass 4 is available right now in the market, provided you pick the Samsung Galaxy Alpha which will come out to be the first smartphone to use the new material. Basically, it will be Samsung’s very own scratch-proof glass display to replace Gorilla Glass. With the codename Project Valley, the smartphone with foldable display might have Turtle Glass adorning its screen and is expected to arrive next year.
Samsung has not officially confirmed about Turtle Glass, but it has been sighted in Korean government agencies already. There’s also the less used Dragontrail Glass by Asahi, also boasting impressive toughness.
Corning’s glass displays are known to be very tough and scratch-resistant, thus, a lot of OEM companies use the Gorilla Glass on their products.
Samsung is one company that loves to make its own things. However, Qualcomm’s chips could return in Samsung’s next flagship – the so-called Galaxy S7. While we can’t say for sure what exactly is Turtle Glass, it doesn’t really take much to figure out that it could potentially be an alternative to Gorilla Glass.
