Ghost in the Shell First Assault Online Revealed, Closed Beta Incoming
While a first person shooter may lack the nuance of Shirow’s existential cyberpunk manga or its increasingly deep anime adaptations, the world itself does lend itself to the action driven gameplay. Sharing the world and visual styling of the classic manga, First Assault is an online shooter where you take on the role of one of eight augmented soldiers and work together to shoot people in the face. However, an earlier opportunity to play will be available with October closed betas. It’s too bad First Assault doesn’t bother with them between shooting at stuff. As an elite, augmented soldier, players will advance and master their character with upgrades and unlocks as they succeed in combat. Each character has exclusive attributes inspired by the source material, such as Motoko Kusanagi’s “Therm-optic Camouflage” cloaking technology or Saito’s ability to enhance his vision and highlight enemy soldiers. Initially, the game will include eight characters that each can be customised in a number of different ways, including: body augmentation, abilities, as well as weapon attachments. There’s also something called “SkillSync”, which apparently allows players to share their “cyber-abilities” on the field to create “devastating combinations”. The initial challenge runs from October . 1-4, with the second challenge following shortly after.
