Will Kane be at Hawks training camp?
In the Chicago Tribune this week, Contract Reporter Steve Rosenbloom wrote a column on his inability to understand the thought process behind Chicago Blackhawks fans who have decided to stand by Patrick Kane while he is now involved in an investigation for an alleged sexual assault.
Camp begins Friday on the Notre Dame campus in South Bend, Indiana.
The players mentioned are just a handful who have since departed from the Blackhawks following the Stanley Cup.
Kane was included on the Blackhawks’ training camp roster that was released Wednesday.
If Kane is skating on Friday, the team risks the appearance of callousness and perpetuation of the enabling, win-at-all-costs mentality that has helped facilitate the unending behavioral problems of their 26-year-old star.
The St. Louis Blues invited defenseman Stu Bickel to their training camp on a professional tryout basis. The legal right to remain silent is the probable path here, and going this route is clearly in the best interests of Patrick Kane, his legal team and his hockey team.
Given Kane’s ongoing off-ice issues and the fact he now is the focal point of an investigation in a sexual assault case in New York state, this was all very controversial. Kane’s accuser and himself were both scheduled to appear before the grand jury. I don’t know about you, but I will be putting everything down to watch this press conference at 2 o’clock tomorrow.
The Blackhawks have invited a few veterans to the camp as they look for some depth on the roster.
Last postseason, the Blackhawks went through a rough time with their defensive group as they dealt with injuries and a lack of depth.
Kane has stayed out of the public since he was accused last month.
Kane has much to protect as the investigation continues, as well.
