Broken wipers prompt Toyota RAV4 recall
The models subject to recall include 2009-2012 RAV4 and the 2012-14 RAV4 EV (the all-electric version).
Toyota explained that the windshield wiper links might have corroded after it was exposed to water.
Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. said Thursday it is recalling more than 420,000 Rav4 sport utility vehicles over potential problems with their windshield wipers. Toyota dealers will replace the water channel, wiper link, and wiper motor crank arm.
Toyota did not respond immediately to a query from Edmunds asking if there are any injuries, crashes or fatalities linked to the recall. Unusual wear in the harness can cause a short… This might lead to the joints weakening resulting in the wiper separating from the crank arm. If separated, the wipers could become inoperative. Owners of the affected models will be notified by Toyota via first class mail about this condition and a meeting will be scheduled with the local dealerships.
