Bihar Legislative Council Polls: BJP+ wins 14 out of 24 Seats

Kumar, who is the BJP’s in-charge for Bihar, also thanked the voters and local body representatives for this historic verdict.

Out of the 13 seats in the NDA camp, BJP was able to walk away with 12 seats while Ram Vilas Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) scored victory on one seat.

Putting up a good show, the NDA won 14 seats in the Legislative Council elections while the Nitish Kumar led alliance managed to win just 9 of the 24 seats in the state.

Both Nistish Kumar and Lalu Prasad had been claiming to rout BJP, but received major blow after the announcements on Friday, where BJP emerged victorious.

Despite the opposition from within, RJD chief Lalu Prasad, a convict in the fodder scam case and barred from contesting elections, agreed to project Nitish Kumar as the chief ministerial candidate for the polls.

Out of nine results declared by Election Commission BJP has won at Aurangabad, Rohtas-cum-Kaimur, Saran, Gopalganj, Darbhanga, Samastipur and Purnea-cum-Araria-cum Kishanganj.

Nitish-led JD-U, meanwhile, had won in Nalanda, Muzaffarpur, and Gaya and was leading in Nawada and Bhagalpur.

The NDA was the first to open the account in the Council polls touted as “semi-final” before the crucial Assembly elections scheduled later this year registering a win from Saran constituency where BJP candidate Sachidananda Rai defeated his rivals.

As per trend available, there is bad news for Nitish Kumar party in Patna where RJD rebel Ritlal Yadav who is contesting as Independent is marching ahead of rivals.

The ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U), which was confident of crushing the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), won five seats, the RJD got four seats and the Congress one seat.

As per seat-sharing arrangements in Secular alliance, JD(U) and RJD fielded candidates on 10 seats each while Congress put up its nominees at three places and NCP one.
